The song, entitled Not in My Lifetime, is a call to today's generation to not let our time go down in history as an era of tragedy. The song urges young people to take a stand and ensure that the legacy they leave will be a unified one.
"Musicians have the power to touch lives and change attitudes," says Siyabonga Metana of Skwatta Kamp. "Their music transcends borders and unites people."
The campaign is being coordinated by Metana and YFM's Lee Kasumba.
Among the many artists who feature on the track are DJ Sbu, HHP, Simphiwe Dana, KB, MXO, Tumi and DJ Cleo. The song was recorded on Sunday at Jaxxworx Studio in Johannesburg and will be released in the coming weeks.
Speaking to Cape Times, Kasumba said, "I'm really excited about all these artists being on one track. These are powerful and influential individuals and people take more notice if the person that they respect is involved in such a cause."
Metana hopes the song's message will resonate throughout Africa to inspire artists and musicians to get involved and realise that they have the ability to challenge injustices.
Other artists and individuals also supporting the campaign include Udo Carelse, Lebo Mashile, Thandiswa Mazwai and Swazi prince Ntsika Dlamini.
