High-income black households show dramatic growth

Wednesday, 16 September 2009
Research from the Bureau of Market Research (BMR) released today revealed that black households in the highest income group (R750 thousand plus) grew dramatically during the past decade.

A report titled "Household Income and Expenditure Patterns and Trends, 2007 – 2008" highlighted that, growing from a low base, the number of black households in the highest income group grew dramatically during the past decade.

"The African population has shown marked gains with respect to the R50-100k, R100-300k and R300-500k income groups.

"The highlight of this period (2007-2008) pertaining to the African population income, was a high growth rate of households in the third lowest income group (R100-300k). Evidently, one in six (16.8%) African households migrated into this income category between 2007 and 2008," BMR said.
