TAC celebrates 11th anniversary with Human Rights Award

Thursday, 10 December 2009
The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) celebrates its 11th anniversary today with an international award for outstanding human rights work for people living with HIV-Aids.

TAC, which campaigns for the rights of people living with HIV/Aids, said in a statement it will receive the Human Rights Award of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation on Thursday - which is also International Human Rights Day.

The award, established in 1994, is awarded annually to individuals or organisations which have rendered outstanding services for human rights.

TAC said it worked hard for years to ensure that everyone living with HIV had access to quality comprehensive prevention and treatment and could lead healthy lives.

The celebrations would be marked by continued participation in the Global Week of Action campaign across South Africa to sustain awareness and activism around World Aids Day, which was on December 1.
