 Botshabelo

This is Botshabelo’s favourite day of the year! They get to honour the great Nelson Mandela and connect with and celebrate the supporters and community. Help Botshabelo, fill 67 square meters with donations for their 3 programmes. You can help them continue feeding their babies, educating young minds and empowering women to change their communities!

Gather your family and friends and collect items for Botshabelo’s 67 squares. Join Botshabelo from 09h00 to 13h00 in groups of all sizes to add your donations to the 67 square meters. Grab a cup of coffee, make your mark and celebrate with pictures while you are taken on a virtual tour of Botshabelo.

 The Cart Horse Protection Association

Spend Mandela Day with The Cart Horse Protection Association team and volunteer at their Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre at the Firlands Equestrian Estate in Somerset West. Join The Cart Horse Protection Association on the 18th of July 2017 from 09h00 to 14h00, they need your help cleaning roofs, cleaning stable walls and extra help with cleaning up the paddocks.
What to Bring:
• Bakkies to take rubbish to the dump
• Rakes
• Buckets
• Boots and gloves
• Drinking water and a snack

Pug Rescue SA

Pug Rescue SA rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes pugs in South Africa. On Mandela Day, for a donation of R67, spend 67 minutes in pug heaven! Your 67 minutes will be filled with over 150 pugs and honorary-pugs who live at the Pug Rescue SA sanctuary while they wait for their forever homes. The day will be made up of two time slots, one time slot of 67 minutes starting at 10h00 and another time slot of 67 minutes starting at 12h30. Your time spent with the rescues will mean the world to them, they love nothing more than receiving tickles and attention. Just because they don’t have their own homes does not mean they don’t deserve some spoils.

Families and individuals are all welcome and appreciated. Children under 16 years of age must please be accompanied by an adult. To book your time slot or for further details please mail admin@pugrescue.co.za. NB: SLOTS ARE LIMITED SO BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL

Child Reach

Child Reach host their projects in the Jackson’s Drift Informal Settlement. They hand out clothing, shoes, toys and a nice warm meal to 700 disadvantaged children in the camp. Child Reach also feeds 130 child headed homes together with The Rebecca Pillay Foundation. The hot meal includes a juice.
On Tuesday the 18th July 2017, Child Reach has a jam packed day planned for the 700 kids in Jackson’s Drift Informal Settlement .

At 12h00
Child Reach will be handing out previously loved clothing, shoes and toys to 700 children. 
Child Reach will also be serving 700 children a nice hot meal with juice.

At 14h00
Dancers will be giving volunteers and the children a special show with lots of awesome African Music. A soccer fundi doing tricks for the kids to music.

At 15h00
The Child Reach soccer team will take on The Eye of Africa Soccer team. Volunteers are welcome to stay and watch the game. 

If volunteers could please also help Child Reach collect second hand clothing and toys for ages 1 to 18 years. Also any food items for their soup kitchen, such as mealie meal, soya, rice, tins of mix veg, bake beans will be gratefully received. Child Reach is also looking for donations of oranges or apples for these children for the day as well.

Build The Future

Build the Future is an organisation that runs a preschool in Kya Sands. The children at the school come from the informal settlement where many are living in very poor conditions. Build the Future relies solely on volunteers to do their teaching.

Join Build The Future on the 17th and 18th of July from 09h00 to 13h00where you will spend your day planting vegetables, weeding, sanding, general maintenance, playing with the kids, reading stories and building puzzles

If volunteers could bring a 2.5kg of mielie meal, 1kg Morevite, 2 cans of pilchards, or any other nonperishables. Volunteers also need to bring a pair of gloves along with them.

Iris House

Iris House Children’s Hospice supports 350 children and their families with community and hospice based respite care. Iris has developed year round family support programs with support groups, family outings and treats. Join Iris House on the 18th of July 2017 from 08h00 – 16h00 and pick from one of Iris Houses’ wonderful projects available for teams:

 Ukwakha Isizwe Foundation-Hope Centre

Ukwakha Isizwe Foundation-Hope Centre
Hope Center is the full time, administrative center overseeing all activities in the Klopper Park area. Spend your 67 minutes at Ukwakha Isizwe Foundation – Pebbles Klopper Park (Nursery School) on Tuesday the 18th of July from 10h00 to 13h00. Volunteers will spend their 67 minutes playing with children (ages 3 – 6) and assisting teachers with activities and the feeding scheme.

Hearts of Hope

Hearts of Hope provides support and care for vulnerable children whose lives are affected by HIV/Aids, via a children’s home, education & forever families. It is a safe haven for 34 children in Wendywood, Johannesburg.

 Y-CAP

The programme is the Youth Citizens Action Programme (Y-CAP) and it’s an 8 year old programme powered by Empowervate Trust and implemented in collaboration with the Department of Basic Education in all 9 provinces.

Support Team Members Required to Empower Youth on the 18th of July 2017 from 08h00 to 17h00. Y-CAP would like you to spend your 67 minutes by designing adverts to entice schools to participate in Y-CAP.

 The Children’s Memorial Institute

The Children’s Memorial Institute (CMI) is pairing up with Secret Sunset for Mandela Day and hosting a Secret Sunset event on Afrika Tikkun’s rooftop, Braamfontein. Its taking place on 18 July at 17h15 (please get there before the start to get your earphones, “warm up” etc). It will be 67 minutes of the most fun dancing you’ve had all year.

The cost is R100/ person and ALL are welcome! Every cent of the proceeds goes to the CMI!

The beneficiaries for all the donations are Refilwe Community Project and Angels Baby Sanctuary.

 Food Forward SA

Food Forward SA in partnership with Pick n Pay is launching their biggest Food collection and packing event ever. You can get involved by volunteering at your local Pick ‘n Pay between the 14th and 16th July, or buy a bag of listed non-perishable food items (see below!), or if you are a company, join Food Forward on the 18th July to pack the donated food to be delivered to their 600 beneficiaries in the colder winter months.

 Kennel Building for township dogs this Mandela Day

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha is hosting its fourth annual Kennel Building event for Mandela Day. Many township pets live without any form of shelter to protect them from the cold and rain during winter. During this event kennels will be built from scratch, each of which will be handed out to township pets in need. The wood, nails and instructions will be provided. All you need to bring along is a hammer, measuring tape, pencil and some fun. You are welcome to bring along varnish, paint and anything to make your kennel beautiful if you wish.

Corporate Kennel Building – Tuesday 18 July from 10h00 to 14h00

Cost: The clinic will ask for a donation of R 67 or R 167 – whatever you can afford! This will help to cover the costs of the kennel elements!
